Which Soil is Best for Cultivation

Soil has three major components, these are sand, silt and clay. Soil is made from those components. Good productive (all fertile soil is not always productive) soil is very essential for plat proper good and development. Soil has 12 textural classes.

Soil Texture: Soil texture is the relative portion of sand, silt and clay.

12 soil textural classes are:

1. Sand
2. Sandy clay
3. Sandy loam
4. Sandy clay loam
5. Loam
6. Loamy sand
7. Silt
8. Silt loam
9. Silty clay
10. Silty clay loam
11. Clay
12. Clay loam

All of this 12 soil textural classes loam soil is the best for most of the plant cultivation. Because loamy is the intermediate mixture of sand, silt and clay. In loamy soil the three major components of soil remain in a suitable amount of plants well growth.

Properties of Loam:

1. Standard loam is composed of near about 40-percent silt, 40-percent sand and 20-percent clay.
2. Loamy soil has good nutrient holding capacity.
3. Loamy soil has good drainage system.
4. Loamy soil has good ventilation. This is essential for adequate Oxygen supply in root region.

But in sandy and clay soil have not of all these good quality.

In case of sandy soil drainage system and ventilation is good, but nutrient and water holding capacity is very poor. For this reason plant is survived to malnutrition. Therefore, sandy soil is not suitable for most of the plant growth.

In case of clay soil nutrient and water holding capacity is very good, but drainage system and ventilation is very poor. Plant growth and development is hampered in water logging condition. Therefore, clay soil is not suitable for most of the plant growth.
