Senior Health Care for mom and dad is a common concern for most "baby boomers".
The children are grown up, and gone, or almost!!
You finally can do your own thing, play, travel, relax, hobbies. Life is just starting to be calm and BAM!!!....Mom and Dad are falling apart and guess what?
You need to be there to HELP....
Yes, parents today are living longer, very often in poor physical or mental health. Most seniors have not made a short (1 year) or long term plan.
Our parents may think they will function at 100% until they pass on, but most will be functioning at 25 to 75%.
As a Home Health Nurse of 20 years doing senior health care and a total of 35 years in nursing, I can tell you most parents can or try to hide problems. They mentally may not be aware that they themselves are failing.
Most seniors wait until crisis time, then someone calls to inform you of a bad situation. Many times you are informed by a family friend, neighbor, Dr., Home Health Nurse, Department of Social Services or hospital.
Parents just will not ask for your help...during your weekly phone call or visit they will state "All is Well", but stay a week and you may see a whole different picture. It is very difficult for out of town family to know what is going on.
This website is for fellow Baby Boomers who have, are, or soon will be involved in senior health care.
I hope this site will give you information and support.
This generation of seniors are a new challenge to the medical world and families. We are the first generation to care for so many seniors.
How would you know what problems to look for or what questions to ask?
Most people have no clue on how seniors deal with their lives at home,-----But You are about to find out!
